Belotero® was launched in the UK in January 2007 and distributed in the UK by Merz Pharma UK Ltd.
It is a Non-Animal Hyaluronic Acid gel and is designed from biofermentation of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in our body. Belotero is made in Switzerland by Anteis, it is safe and completely biocompatible, as well as fully biodegradable. No allergy test is needed.
Belotero is long lasting and effective from 6 to 9+ months depending upon the degree of correction required, your age and lifestyle.
In practice a top up may be required after a month and then every 4-8 months after this, to maintain the correction required.
This product seems to cause less discomfort, swelling and bruising after treatment compared to some other brands. Lidocaine is added at the time of manufacture to provide improved comfort during the treatment.

Are there any side effects?
BELOTERO is FDA approved and has undergone testing in a clinical study to demonstrate its safety. Hyaluronic acid products for wrinkle correction have been available for a long time and used in thousands of treatments.
Just like any injection, you may experience mild irritation, swelling, itching, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These side effects typically resolve on their own. If any of these side effects persist for more than 7 days, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Is there any down time ?
There is very little to no downtime associated with a BELOTERO treatment. In fact, most patients return to their normal, daily activities right after their visit. Every patient is unique, so be sure to discuss your plans during your consultation with Dr Teri Johnson.
